Overview of the [NEW] Segments feature (Beta)

In this article, we will give you an overview of the new Segments feature.

Sendinblue's new Segments feature allows you to segment your contacts based on advanced criteria (properties and events).

💡 Good to know
The new Segments feature replaces the Advanced Search and Segmentation feature previously available from the Contacts page. It is still in beta and is part of an early release to some of our users. If you are interested in testing it, we can activate it on demand for your account.

🧐 What are segments?

Segments are personalized groups of contacts based on properties and/or events. As your contacts' information changes or as you add more contacts that meet the criteria defined in your segment, your segments will automatically be updated to reflect these changes. For example, if you create a segment with the condition "they have opened an email campaign exactly 0 times", the segment will change as contacts open a campaign.

You can then use segments to send targeted email campaigns to your contacts, such as a special offer for example. You can also use segments instead of filters in your automation workflows

🔨 How do segments work?

Segments are created by defining criteria and comparing them against your contacts. When a contact matches the specified criteria, they will be included in the segment.

A simple segment might look like this:

  • Contacts who live in a certain location.
  • Contacts who didn't click a link in your last email campaign.

But segments can also be more complex and look like that:

  • Contacts who have a dog, live in Paris, aren't in the list named VIP, have received at least three campaigns in the last 6 months, and haven't opened any email campaigns in the last six months.

Overview of the new Segments feature

To access the new Segments feature, go to Contacts > Segments.


💡 Good to know
You can also create and use segments directly from Contacts by clicking on + Add a condition.

At the top-right side of the page, you will find the Create a segment button. From there, you can create a new segment by selecting specific criteria:

  • Properties: filter your contacts based on a contact attribute.
  • Events: filter your contacts based on their behavior with your emails or website.

You can then use this new segment when sending an email campaign.

Categories and search bar


Our search functions allow you to quickly find a segment you've created:

  • Organize and search for segments by category: create categories to store your segments by theme and search for segments through a specific category.
  • Search for segments: do a quick search by typing the name of a segment (or a part of it).

With the new Segments feature, you can:

  • View the details of your segments: get a quick view a segment's ID, its category, the last time it was edited, and the number of contacts that match its criteria.
  • View and edit your segments: view and edit the criteria of a segment by clicking on its name.
  • Perform actions on your segments: duplicate a segment, change its category, rename it, or delete it.
