๐ There is an issue with the formatting of your import file
Your import file doesn't have the right format
The following file types are compatible for importing your contacts to Sendinblue:
- .CSV (Microsoft Excel, OpenOffice Calc, Google Spreadsheets)
- .XLSX (Microsoft Excel open format)
- .TXT (Microsoft Notepad)
Learn more in our dedicated article: Format your contact import file.
Your import file doesn't have the right encoding
We only support two types of file encoding, UTF-8 and Windows-1252. These types of file encoding make it possible to read the content of your file when it contains special characters.
In case you encounter the following error: "The imported files encoding is not supported. We mainly support UTF-8 as a file encoding format" due to an invalid file encoding, please check out our dedicated article: Format your contact import file, section File encoding.
Your data doesn't have the right format
When you import contacts to Sendinblue, the data of your import file will be matched to contact attributes in your Sendinblue account. Certain types of contact attributes, like EMAIL and SMS, require a specific format to be imported correctly.
Also, make sure you are not using delimiters or line breaks in your import file as they will lead to issues when mapping attributes upon import.
Learn how to format your import file in our dedicated article: Format your contact import file.
๐ You are using a Sendinblue plugin
If you are using a Sendinblue plugin, please refer to our dedicated articles to learn how to import contacts from your website and troubleshoot issues related to your plugin.
๐ Your data exceeds 250 MB
The largest file size that can be imported to your Sendinblue account is 250 MB. There is no limit on the number of contacts you can import at once.
๐ Your contacts have been flagged for verification
If a flag icon appears next to your imported contacts, it means that our system performed a verification on a sample of your new contacts and that they may not be 100% opt-in. An opt-in contact list is not only required for GDPR compliance, but it is also necessary as per our Opt-in Policy, Terms of Service, and Anti-Spam policy.
To learn more about why your contacts can be flagged and what you should do when they are, check out our dedicated article: What should I do if my contacts were flagged?.
๐ You have imported duplicates contacts
When you import contacts, our system will automatically remove all duplicate email IDs, so that you do not have to remove them manually.
For example, if your import file contains 50 contacts and only 46 contacts are actually imported into your Sendinblue contact list, it may mean that some of them were duplicates (e.g. married couples who are using the same email address).
๐ You have imported existing contacts
When you import contacts, our system will not upload your existing contacts as new contacts. However, we will update their existing information with the information from your import file.
For example, if your import file contains 50 contacts and only 46 contacts are actually imported into your Sendinblue contact list, it may mean that some of them were already existing contacts.
๐ There is a temporary issue on the platform
Sometimes, we might encounter a temporary issue on our platform, which can have an impact on contacts import. You will be able to finish your import once our IT team resolves the issue.
To check if an issue is happening on the platform, you can refer to our system status page.
