Use a pool of dedicated IPs

In this article, we will explain how to create and manage a pool of dedicated IPs.

Pools of dedicated IPs, commonly called IP pools, are groups of dedicated IP addresses that are used to manage the sending reputation of your emails.

Why use a pool of dedicated IPs?

Once you have configured at least two dedicated IPs on your Sendinblue account, you can choose to create a pool of dedicated IPs so that your email campaigns can be delivered more quickly and effectively. To do so, you must associate several dedicated IPs to one sender.

For example, if you create an IP pool of 2 for one of your senders, email campaigns from that sender will be sent at random from each IP (50/50). This will not be visible to your recipient, who will always see the same sender. However, it will allow your ISP to deliver your email campaigns twice as quickly.

💡 Good to know
Using an IP pool is particularly important if you send more than 200,000 emails per day.

Create an IP pool

To start with, you can watch this video to learn how to create and manage a pool of dedicated IPs. Please note that the Sendinblue interface has changed, but the principle is still the same.

To create a pool of dedicated IPs:

  1. In Sendinblue, click your name at the top-right side of the screen and go to Senders & IP > Senders.
You can now access the list of your senders and their associated dedicated IPs. To create an IP pool, you need to link several IP addresses to the same sender.
  2. Next to the sender that you want to use, click on Manage and select Edit.

  3. To link a new IP address to this sender and create your IP pool, click on + Add.
  4. In the drop-down menu, select which dedicated IP you would like to link to this sender using the drop-down menu.

  5. Click on OK. The dedicated IP you selected has been added to the list of IP addresses linked to this sender.
  6. Click on Save.

Your IP pool has now been created and from now on your email campaigns will be sent at random by one of the IP addresses in the pool, delivering your email campaigns more rapidly.

Manage the weighting of each dedicated IP

To manage the volume of emails sent by each IP, you can assign a “weight” percentage to each IP.

By default, this weighting is divided between each IP selected. If you only select one IP, the weighting will automatically be 100%. If you add a second IP, the default allocation will be 50% for each of the two IPs. The total of all the IPs must always equal 100%.

For example, if you have 2 IPs and you update their weights to:

  • First IP: 75%
  • Second IP: 25%

In that case, the first IP will send most of your emails. Specifically, 75% of the emails will be sent from this IP and 25% from the second.

Change the weighting of an IP

  1. In Sendinblue, click your name at the top-right side of the screen and go to Senders & IP > Senders.
  2. Next to the sender using the IP pool that you want to modify, click on Manage and select Edit.

  3. For each IP, enter your chosen weighting in percentage. The total of all the IPs must always equal 100%.

  4. Once you're done, click on Save.

Use an IP pool via the API

To send an email campaign from the API, you must have created at least one sender in Sendinblue and associated them with your dedicated IPs.

If you are sending transactional emails via the API from a sender that has not been set up in Sendinblue, one of your dedicated IPs will be used at random.
