Insert an unsubscribe link in your campaigns

The unsubscribe link is a link that recipients can click from the footer of your email to open your Sendinblue unsubscribe page and stop receiving your emails. Having an unsubscribe link in your campaigns is mandatory as it is essential to your contacts and for the proper functioning of your campaigns. The process of inserting an unsubscribe link in your email campaigns is in two steps: you first need to add the unsubscribe link in your campaign design and then select which unsubscribe page it will lead to

💡 Good to know
If you delete the unsubscribe link from your email campaign, Sendinblue will add it back automatically during sending. We do not recommend deleting the unsubscribe link to use the default one as it may not lead to an unsubscribe page in your recipients' language and won't match your branding. We highly recommend adding your own unsubscribe link to your email campaigns and using custom unsubscribe pages.

Before you start

1️⃣ Add an unsubscribe link in your campaign design

Once you have created a custom unsubscribe page, you can add your unsubscribe link to your campaign design. The process for adding an unsubscribe link in your campaign design is different based on the editor you are using to build your email:

In the Drag & Drop Editors

❗️ Important
Always make sure your unsubscribe link is clearly visible and understandable for your recipients and written in their language.
  • If you are using a Sendinblue template, the unsubscribe link is inserted by default in the footer. You just need to customize the footer to match your branding and select the custom unsubscribe page to use in the Advanced settings of your campaign creation flow.
  • If you are creating your email campaign from scratch, drag and drop the Footer block at the end of your email design. By default, the Unsubscribe (here) word contains the unsubscribe link. You can customize the sentence and footer design to make them correspond to your tone of voice and branding.

💡 Good to know
To avoid repeating this step for each of your campaigns, we recommend creating an email template or saving the footer block for each language. That way, you will be able to reuse the email template each time you start the designing step or drag and drop the custom footer in each new campaign design.

In the HTML and Rich Text editors

Manually add an unsubscribe link in a campaign

To manually add an unsubscribe link in a campaign created in the HTML and Rich Text editors, simply insert the {{ unsubscribe }} placeholders in an HTML hyperlink tag <a>:

Choose a default unsubscribe link to use in all your campaigns

❗️ Important
We do not recommend setting up default unsubscribe links and mirror links in your campaigns if you send your campaigns in multiple languages as you will have to override them each time you create a new campaign.

You can set a default footer to be used in campaigns created using the HTML and Rich Text editors.

To set a default footer:

  1. Go to Campaigns > Settings > Default Settings.

  2. In the Default campaign settings section, modify the text of the [DEFAULT_FOOTER] field.
Note: the clickable text must be added between curly brackets { }, e.g. {here}.

💡 Good to know
The Edit default header/footer boxes will not be visible if you already added the unsubscribe link in your email campaign design with the Drag & Drop Editor

2️⃣ Select the custom unsubscribe page to use

After adding the unsubscribe link in your campaign design, you have to choose which custom unsubscribe page the unsubscribe link in your campaign design will take your recipients to.

Option 1: From the Design Option 2: From the campaign creation flow
  1. In your campaign design, click your unsubscribe link.
  2. Click the link icon.
  3. Enter the following information:
    1. Type of link: select Unsubscribe link (global)
    2. Use a custom unsubscribe page: select the unsubscribe page that you want to use
    3. Link title: if not done already, enter the text of your link
  4. Click Update.

❓Can I change or delete the unsubscribe link?

Having an unsubscribe link in your email campaign is mandatory as it is essential to your contacts and for the proper functioning of your campaign. You can change it, but you cannot delete it.
