What’s an API key and how can I get mine?

In this article, we will explain what an API key is and how you can find yours.

What is an API key?

You can use your API key to connect your website or information system with Sendinblue. This will enable you to automatically and manually trigger certain actions.

You can use our API to automatically add new contacts as well as do more complex tasks, such as:

  • create and schedule campaigns from the API,
  • export users belonging to particular lists,
  • export campaign statistics,
  • etc.

Find your API key

To protect your API keys and make them more secure, your existing API v2 and v3 keys are no longer visible from your account. Only the last digits of the key will be displayed so that you can distinguish between several keys if necessary:

Only your Plugins API v2 key will be shown.

API v3 key

API v3 is our current API version. In case this is your first time needing your API v3 key or if you forget it, you will need to generate a new one:

  1. While logged into your account, click on your name at the top-right side of the screen.
  2. Click SMTP & API
  3. Under the API keys tab, click + CREATE A NEW API KEY.
  4. Name your API key.
  5. Click Generate.
  6. Copy your API key and save it somewhere safe.
    Note: your API v3 key is only visible during this time.
  7. Click OK.

That's it! You have successfully generated, copied, and saved your API v3 key somewhere safe. If you ever forget your API key, you will simply need to generate a new one following the above process.

API v2 key

Our API v2 was deprecated on June 25th 2021 and should not be used anymore. You can still use your existing API v2 keys to migrate from API v2 to v3 until the end of 2021.

However, please note that you cannot generate a new API v2 key. In case you forget your key, please contact our support team.
