Installing the SendinBlue Tracker enables you to track, through SendinBlue, all of the pages on your site visited by your contacts. Once identified, contacts will be automatically added on SendinBlue and can be entered in your Marketing Automation workflows.
You will then be able to create custom workflows based on visits to specific pages. For example, if you have an e-commerce site, you can send a targeted email to your contacts based on a visit to a specific category (for example shoes, suits, etc.).
1. Installing the tracker
You can use one of two methods to install the tracker:
- Installation requiring no technical skills [Strongly recommended]
- Manual installation [Advanced]
1.1 Installation requiring no technical skills [Strongly recommended]
A - Through the SendinBlue plugin
The tracker can be activated in just 2 clicks with our several of our plugins, including WordPress, Prestashop, and OpenCart. To do this, you just need to install the SendinBlue plugin on your web editor:
- Installing the Prestashop plugin
- Installing the WordPress plugin
- Installing the OpenCart plugin
- Installing the JTL plugin
- Installing the Shopware plugin
Once the plugin has been installed, you can activate the tracker by clicking on the "Activate Marketing Automation through SendinBlue" in the plugin settings. You will find more information in the tutorials for installing the plugins.
Example on WordPress:
Example on Prestashop:
B - Using a tag integration solution such as Google Tag Manager
Google Tag Manager allows you to add tags and code snippets to your website without having to manually edit your site's code. To integrate the SendinBlue script to Google Tag Manager you have to:
- Log in to your Google Tag Manager account and select the desired content
- Create a new tag, which you can name "Main Script – SendinBlue" for example
- Select the "custom HTML" tag
- Copy and paste the Automation script in the space indicated. You can find the Automation script in the Marketing Automation settings
- Select the "All pages" trigger to install this script on all of your website's pages
- Save this new tag and then publish the container
And that's it, you've now installed the Automation script on your website through Google Tag Manager.
1.2 Manual installation [Advanced]
If you don't have a WordPress or Prestashop website, or a tag integration solution such as Google Tag Manager, you can manually install the script onto your website.
We strongly advise you to ask your web developer to install the script, which should only take a few minutes.
You can find the script in the Marketing Automation settings. It starts and finishes with <script></script>.
To do this you need to insert the main script into your website. Like with Google Analytics, you have to add your script in the "header" file (e.g. header.php). Insert the script between the <head> and </head> tags.
It's best to install your script just before the </head> closing tag to avoid pasting within another tag. If you don't have a </head> tag, you can add the script just before the <body> tag.
Once the script has been added, check that it works properly by looking at the uploaded data in the Event logs on SendinBlue.
Wait a few minutes after installing the script before checking to see if "page" data has been uploaded in the event logs.
You can also check yourself by logging onto your SendinBlue account and then visiting your website.
Warning : the Automation script only tracks identified users, i.e. users who've filled in their email address on your website or users who've clicked on your subscription form or in one of your SendinBlue emails for example.
