Thanks for choosing SendinBlue and trusting us to partner with your business! If you are considering purchasing a dedicated IP address, or if you're ready to set up your SendinBlue dedicated IP, we understand that you may have questions about how to get started. This guide will answer these key questions:
What is a dedicated IP address?
Let's start with the basics about IP addresses and how they are used for sending emails. An IP address is a digital address that can send and receive digital information, such as emails. Email service providers, including SendinBlue, often use their own group of IP addresses to send campaigns on behalf of their users. These are considered "shared IPs" since they deploy campaigns from many different email senders (SendinBlue users). Unlike shared IPs, a dedicated IP address is reserved for a single sender and is only used to send that sender's messages. Why do I need to use a dedicated IP? How will it affect my campaigns?
At SendinBlue, our team works hard to build a positive reputation for our shared IP addresses. This helps our users' messages be well received and delivered by ISPs like Yahoo, Hotmail, etc. An IP builds a positive reputation by sending emails that ISPs consider trustworthy. Trustworthy emails are not often marked as "spam" or sent to invalid email addresses, and they are opened and clicked by recipients. High volume senders (over 100,000 emails/month) should always use a dedicated IP to build and maintain their own reputation with ISPs. This ensures their reputation is only affected by their own campaigns' quality and success. Some SendinBlue users may be asked to transition from our shared IPs to a dedicated IP. Our shared IPs must maintain a positive reputation to provide value to SendinBlue users; this request is only made when a sender's campaigns perform poorly and endanger other users' ability to reach the inbox. For these senders, transitioning to a dedicated IP will provide two benefits:
- the ability to continue sending from the SendinBlue platform, and
- an opportunity to understand, manage and improve their sending reputation.
Where can I buy a dedicated IP to use with my SendinBlue account?
Enterprise-level plan subscribers (Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Atomic) automatically receive one free dedicated IP along with their monthly plan. Users who send more than 200,000 emails per day may wish to purchase additional IP addresses to create an IP pool. (At these daily volumes, using an IP pool provides the quickest and most effective delivery for your campaigns.) Small business plan subscribers (Free, Micro, Bronze, Silver) and pay-as-you-go users send from our shared IPs by default. To transition to sending via a dedicated IP, please purchase one IP. Please note: only IP addresses purchased from SendinBlue may be associated with your account. Similarly, SendinBlue dedicated IPs may not be transferred to other platforms. How do I set up my dedicated IP? How long will it take?
Setting up a dedicated IP is a relatively quick process, but does require access to your website's domain hosting account. If you don't have a domain yet, don't worry! It's easy to acquire a domain from hosts like GoDaddy or OVH. The initial set up is done within your hosting account, typically by the person who manages your website.
First, create a subdomain to use exclusively with SendinBlue (such as email.yourdomain.com). Then point that subdomain to SendinBlue by adding two name server records to that subdomain, with the subdomain as the host, and ns1.sendinblue.com and ns2.sendinblue.com as the data.
Note: Please do not associate a subdomain (or domain) with your dedicated IP that already serves another purpose, such as hosting your website or email server. Associating your primary website or email domain with your dedicated IP would interfere with those services.
Once that step is completed, login to your SendinBlue account to:
- Connect your subdomain with your dedicated IP on this page.
- Create a new sender to use with your dedicated IP on this page.
Our team will give your account a quick review to ensure everything is set up correctly before you begin sending from your new dedicated IP. Just let us know (email@example.com) when you're finished with set up or schedule a new campaign to trigger a review.
